An effective transfer is not a document handover. These five questions surface the gaps that most often delay readiness, validation and commercial supply.
Technology transfer is where strategy meets the shop floor. When a product moves from a sending site to a receiving site, the visible artifacts — dossiers, batch records, specifications — are only the surface. Underneath sit decisions about process design, equipment capability, analytical control and people that determine whether the transfer lands on time.
In our work across receiving-site programs, the same categories of gap appear again and again. Resolving five questions early converts a hopeful timeline into a governed, evidence-based one.
Each question maps to a workstream: strategy and due diligence, manufacturing readiness, the analytical and QA interface, and execution with verification. Where the answers are weak, the transfer plan should carry explicit gap-closure actions with owners and dates — not assumptions.
If you are preparing a transfer, a focused technical assessment in the early weeks is the highest-leverage investment available. It converts unknowns into a plan you can defend to regulators, partners and your own board.
